Traveling this trail provides a journey through time. A leisurely day trip
along this National Scenic Byway takes you past fantastic geologic formations,
ancient Indian ruins, and reminders of the areas logging, mining and
ranching heritage. Many opportunities exist for hiking, fishing, camping,
and cross-country skiing. The Jemez Mountains also boast one of the most
famous natural hot springs in the world.
San Ysidro Gateway to the Jemez Mountain Trail, where Hwy 4 and US 550 meet, it features a restored Spanish adobe church and the works of local artisans.
Pueblo of Jemez The village of Walatowa offers a visitor center, museum and gift shop featuring Jemez arts and crafts. Studio tours, bread baking demonstrations, and examples of traditional social dances are available with advance notice.
